Prime Movers Project at D.C.'s Ballou High School Subject of One-Hour Special on NewsChannel 8

Washington
-- A one-hour special featuring Washington’s Ballou High School students and their work with the Prime Movers program will air on D.C.’s NewsChannel 8 several times this weekend:

Thursday, June 19, at 1:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.
Saturday, June 20, at 10:30 a.m.
Sunday, June 21, at 3 p.m.

Prime Movers teams professional journalists with interns from The George Washington University School of Media and Public Affairs to revitalize high school print and broadcast curriculums. Prime Movers works with three media companies and four area high schools, including Ballou in Southeast Washington; since 2004, journalists from National Public Radio, WJLA-TV (which operates NewsChannel 8) and USA Today, as well as interns from GWU, have been going into the schools to train and inspire students.

Through its High School Broadcast Journalism Project, RTNDF has provided equipment to Ballou for its Prime Movers project. The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation funds both the Prime Movers program and the High School Broadcast Journalism Project.
