Former RTDNA/F Chairman, Edward Esposito, Named Secretary/Treasurer of RTDNF

WASHINGTON – Edward Esposito, chairman of the Radio Television Digital News Association from 2007-2008, and an instrumental figure in the success of the RTDNF scholarship and fellowship programs has been named secretary and treasurer of RTDNF, the educational arm of the Radio Television Digital News Association.

Esposito (right in the photo) has had a place on the RTDNA/F board since 2003, and has served in various roles, including chairman and trustee. His most recent appointment to the RTDNF secretary and treasurer position will have him oversee Foundation investments and continue to work on the Foundation's scholarship programs. Esposito fills the unexpired term of Mike Cavender, who resigned his position as Foundation Treasurer  to serve as RTDNA/F Executive Director.

“RTDNF's impact on electronic journalism spans generations; seeing the work of those individuals and their impact on our profession is incredibly gratifying. Regardless of today's pessimistic chatter in the short-term -- and that's always been part of journalism -- seeing first hand their passion fuels optimism for tomorrow,” Esposito said. “It's been a blessing to have served with a wonderful team of smart, committed colleagues with RTDNA/F, and I'm appreciative of their faith and opportunity to continue to serve this great organization."

In his full-time role, Esposito serves as vice president of information media for Rubber City Radio Group (RCRG). RCRG is the parent company for 1590 WAKR, 97.5 WONE, 94.9 WQMX, 107.3 WNWV in Cleveland and www.AkronNewsNow.com.

He joined RCRG in 1998 as morning news anchor on WQMX-FM and was elevated to the position of news director that year. During his tenure the station has been recognized with numerous awards including several Edward R. Murrow Awards. The station has also won praise for coverage of local news and sports from the Ohio Associated Press Broadcasters, SPJ and Cleveland Press Club's Ohio Excellence in Journalism Awards.

“Esposito’s support of the RTDNA/F mission has been evident for a long time," said RTDNF Chairman, Mark Kraham.  "I’m pleased that our organization continues to benefit from his hard work and dedication.”

Esposito's previous broadcast experience includes radio and television stations in Cleveland, Cincinnati, and West Virginia. He is a former president of the Ohio Associated Press Broadcasters Association, and has represented broadcasters on the Ohio Newspaper Association's Ohio Coalition for Open Government and Kent State University Journalism and Mass Communications Student Media Board.

"One of the biggest highlights of RTDNA and RTDNF is the scholarship program, in addition to our continued strong advocacy on First Amendment issues covering all journalists and broadcasters,” Esposito said. “It's literally the living legacy we leave through mentoring and encouraging the next generation of journalists committed to insightful and unique storytelling. Whether it's the world or neighbors a block away. The people we help with our support now will be the glue that holds our communities together for years to come.”
