RTDNF Ethics Project
|
The Journalism Ethics Project reinforces core journalism values and ethical practices among news professionals.
The program's goals are to:
- Encourage high standards of electronic journalism among news professionals and news organizations
- Rebuild public trust in the media through improved journalistic practices
|
 |
Premised on the belief that local news organizations and their communities depend on each other to survive and prosper, this project encourages local news organizations to have an ongoing dialogue with the communities they serve.
The ethics project offers:
- Public forums for discussing the role and impact of journalism in society
- Training workshops
- Print and video resources
- Research on public attitudes about electronic news
News Decision-Making Workshops
 |
Tara Cardoso and Lacy Evans from WPEC-TV in West Palm Beach, FL, discuss their action plan for taking what they learned at RTNDF's News Decision-Making Workshop back to their newsroom. |
Since 1999 RTDNF has conducted workshops across the country and we are busy planning more for 2008. Journalists participating in these workshops discuss television and radio case studies involving ethical dilemmas and are trained how to sharpen their news decision-making skills.
Tough Calls - Regional Workshops
RTDNF's original ethics program, Tough Calls, began in the late 1980s and continues today with interactive regional sessions at the UNITY- member journalism conferences, state AP programs, state Broadcast Association conferences and regional RTDNA meetings.

RTDNA Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct
In meeting its responsibility to the profession of electronic journalism, Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) has created this code to identify important issues, to serve as a guide for its members, to facilitate self-scrutiny and to shape future debate. The Journalism Ethics Project teaches and supports the values articulated in RTDNA's Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. |
