About
The Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA)
RTNDA is the world's largest professional organization exclusively serving the electronic news profession, consisting of more than 3,000 news directors, news associates, educators and students. Founded as a grassroots organization in 1946, the association is dedicated to setting standards for newsgathering and reporting. Although news techniques and technologies are constantly changing, RTNDA's commitment to encouraging excellence in the electronic journalism industry remains the same.
RTNDA represents electronic journalists in radio, television and all digital media, as well as journalism educators and students. Our members are news directors, producers, reporters, anchors, general managers, professors, students, industry suppliers, operations managers and digital content managers. RTNDA members benefit from publications, training, advocacy and many opportunities to network with colleagues. Joining RTNDA says you're concerned about First Amendment issues, Freedom of Information issues, ethics in reporting, improving coverage, implementing technology and all news industry issues. Our members help shape the future of our profession and we protect their interests by advocating on their behalf and lobbying in their interest.
The Radio and Television News Directors Foundation (RTNDF)
RTNDF, the educational arm of the association, was created to help RTNDA members embody and uphold the standards of ethical journalism and promote leadership in the newsroom. RTNDF offers RTNDA members -- and the news community -- professional development opportunities, an open forum for the discussion of ethics, assistance with the development of leadership skills, support of First Amendment issues and the exchange of ideas and perspectives from electronic journalists worldwide. RTNDF sponsors invaluable programs like the RIAS Journalist Exchange in Germany, Sunshine Week, News and Terrorism workshops, scholarships and fellowships for students and new professionals, the High School Journalism program and the First Amendment Dinner. The important work of the RTNDF is funded through grants and support from RTNDA members. Click here for more information about RTNDF
