Dear Friends in Journalism,
The success of RTDNF depends greatly on people like you; broadcasters, reporters, educators and friends of the First Amendment who care about the quality of journalism in our country and the possibilities open to our next generation of journalists.
We know you are asked to donate to many organizations at this time of year and we hope you recognize that a donation to RTDNF is different. It’s an investment in areas of great importance to all of us. Your help is an investment in the journalists of the future, an investment in the quality of our industry, and an investment in the defense of our First Amendment freedoms. Those are certainly high claims and without your generous annual contribution we could not make them.
Invest in Future Journalists
Each year, the Radio Television Digital News Foundation awards more than a dozen scholarships and fellowships to deserving college students who are working hard to one day take their place in our profession.
As Chair, I have the pleasure of calling each winner to tell them of their award. The gratitude expressed by the students proves the value of your continued support of RTDNF and our mission. Many of these promising students would not be able to pursue their journalism dreams without our support.
Invest in Our Industry
Since our founding in 1967, the RTDNF has been at the forefront supporting career professionals. Our long-standing partnership with the RIAS German-American journalist exchange helps scores of professionals gain a better understanding of the complexities of international reporting every year, and our partnership with the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) provides journalists with stories and best practices for covering personal finance.
We are excited this year to begin a new partnership with the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) to advance quality journalism worldwide.
Further, RTDNF has ongoing programs that provide leadership training, encourage diversity, and promote ethics and integrity.
Invest in Our First Amendment Freedoms
Finally, our annual First Amendment Gala each spring in Washington honors leaders in our profession for their work in defense of our right to free speech and a free and unfettered press.
The Foundation and Association also work to defend and represent the rights of journalists throughout the year. This past year we participated in meetings with Attorney General Eric Holder about policy changes at the Department of Justice regarding search warrants involving journalists, we appeared on national television programs explaining the role of journalists and supporting quality journalism, and we assisted journalists from Kentucky, Montana and many other states in FOIA battles.
I hope you’ll agree that RTDNF provides valuable support for our profession. That only happens because of your investment in RTDNF and our shared goals. .
Please consider making an annual tax-deductible contribution to the Foundation. 100% of your donation is used to continue our programs and scholarships — every one designed to improve journalism.
Donating is easy: Just click here to get the process started! We appreciate every gift — regardless of its size — and we thank you for helping keep journalism strong and vital!
RTDNF is a 501 (c) 3 charitable foundation and as no goods or services are received, your contributions are fully tax-deductible.
